Position Overview

The Philanthropic Engagement Officer (PEO) acts as the primary representative of our organization to the philanthropic sector, focusing on fostering connections with donors across all service areas, particularly in Central Arkansas. The PEO is instrumental in cultivating sustainable and reliable funding streams to support our mission by establishing significant relationships with benefactors and securing contributions.

The PEO is responsible for designing and executing strategies aimed at attracting funding from a select group of individuals, foundations, and corporations capable of contributing $5,000 or more annually. Through tailored relationship management, the PEO enhances the revenue potential from this group each year.

Each donor in the PEO's portfolio receives a rewarding and meaningful giving experience, as the PEO actively seeks to understand their philanthropic interests and encourages support for relevant mission areas. Engaging potential donors through personalized discussions, leadership involvement, and other interactive experiences is a key responsibility.

The Philanthropic Engagement Officer plays a crucial role within the Development department, collaborating with team members to implement innovative strategies, programs, or initiatives. This position requires adaptability to new technologies and a willingness to utilize the software systems employed by Arkansas Foodbank. Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative spirit, and a dedication to alleviating hunger are essential.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities outlined below describe the essential functions of this role but are not exhaustive. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary to balance workloads or cover for absences. This position may occasionally require working outside of standard hours.
  1. Oversee a portfolio of potential donors capable of making significant contributions to advance the mission of Arkansas Foodbank.
  2. Meet established financial targets based on the portfolio's value, with increasing revenue expectations as the portfolio matures.
  3. Achieve activity metrics that guide revenue goals, including meaningful interactions, solicitations, and contributions. Utilize a moves management system to track a minimum of 100 personal donor interactions monthly, in addition to departmental engagements, and provide monthly progress reports.
  4. Develop and implement personalized engagement and solicitation strategies for each qualified philanthropist in the portfolio.
  5. Collaborate with leadership, volunteers, and colleagues to engage portfolio donors in a personally significant manner, ensuring a seamless donor experience and maximizing engagement opportunities.
  6. Engage each portfolio donor personally to assess their capacity, build rapport, and identify their philanthropic interests.
  7. Continuously identify new prospects through various channels.
  8. Document all donor interactions, plans, and solicitations in the donor database within 24 hours, ensuring accurate portfolio records through regular reviews.
  9. Communicate the case for support, key initiatives, and funding opportunities by preparing presentations, marketing materials, letters, and other necessary documentation for solicitations.
  10. Work with Arkansas Foodbank's management team to identify and prioritize specific giving opportunities aligned with the current Strategic Plan.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Other relevant education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the basic requirements upon approval.
  1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
  2. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in Development, Sales, or a related field.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, donor database management, and wealth screening tools.
  4. Valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
  5. Proven track record of meeting and exceeding revenue targets.
  6. Experience in building a donor portfolio and increasing its value over time.
  7. Experience in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding philanthropic contributions of $5,000 or more, including amounts exceeding $100,000.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands for control, and communicate verbally. The employee may occasionally need to stand, walk, or bend.
