Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sponsored Research Accounting Specialist to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the University's research mission by providing financial management and compliance oversight to sponsored research expenditures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review subaward agreements for compliance with University policies, state, and federal regulations, including Uniform Guidance and the Federal Acquisition Regulation clauses.
  • Ensure financial compliance with the terms and conditions of subaward agreements, including verification of billing periods, applicable F&A rates, certification statements, cost share expenditures, and special conditions.
  • Coordinate with department grants managers, PIs, ORPA, and subrecipient contacts to resolve issues with subaward invoices that are financially or programmatically non-compliant.
  • Participate in the subaward risk assessment process and the subrecipient monitoring program for compliance with Uniform Guidance requirements.
  • Provide cash management support, including submitting letters of credit draw down requests to federal sponsors for reimbursements of expenditures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as business administration, finance, or accounting.
  • 4-6 years of related experience in sponsored research accounting, financial compliance, or a related field.
  • Strong financial and accounting skills, with experience in Microsoft Excel and other electronic databases and financial systems.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to think critically.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer service orientation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the audit environment, with specific respect to subawards.
  • General knowledge of federal cost principles/standards that apply to non-educational institutions.
  • CPA certification.
  • Experience with the administration and accounting for federal sponsored research grants.
