Role Description:

The Materials Characterization Technician (Chemistry) is a hands-on laboratory position focused on supporting the New Product Introduction (NPI) Analytical Labs. This role involves conducting analyses and ensuring the precision of results across various chemical and magnetic property assessments. Adherence to established policies and procedures is essential to maintain consistent testing practices that meet customer expectations, ensuring that all analytical outcomes are validated and reported promptly.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Achieve proficiency in analytical methodologies and instrumentation.
  • Primary focus on ICP-OES, with additional responsibilities including LECO, XRF, and XRD testing.
  • Evaluate analytical findings, investigate any inconsistencies, and communicate any unusual results to the Lab Manager and Magnet Technology team.
  • Conduct both routine and specialized analyses, encompassing chemical and magnetic evaluations of diverse product, process, project, research, and environmental samples from various operational sectors.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Assist in monitoring and managing the chemical reagent inventory.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of workstations post-use and contribute to the upkeep of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Perform regular lab housekeeping and inspections.
  • Prioritize analytical tasks in collaboration with the Magnet Technology team.
  • Engage actively in safety management initiatives and comply with all relevant laboratory safety protocols and operational procedures, as well as health, environmental, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain safe working practices.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by management.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience and aptitude in chemical testing methodologies and instrumentation.
  • An associate degree in chemistry, science, or a related field is required.
  • A strong interest in hands-on work to maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Proficiency with computers for data entry and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with laboratory instruments utilized for materials chemical characterization.
  • Understanding of rare earth element testing methods, including DSC/TGA, Dilatometry, pulse-field magnetometry, and closed-loop magnetometry.
