A Generator Technician Class A at Waukesha Pearce Industries (WPI) is responsible for servicing and maintaining generators and transfer switches, ranging from routine oil changes to extensive repairs. The technician must ensure that the service vehicle, tools, and equipment are kept in optimal condition. Responsibilities include conducting load tests, performing warranty repairs, and executing startups in accordance with manufacturer specifications. Additional tasks may be assigned by the supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct maintenance, repairs, load testing, warranty work, and equipment startups.
- Participate in training sessions and service schools provided by WPI.
- Complete daily service documentation.
- Perform weekly inspections of the service vehicle as required.
- Fill out Job Safety Analysis (JSA) forms for each assignment.
- Carry out other tasks as directed by the supervisor.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with generators or equivalent manufacturer certification.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Proficient in testing and loading generators/engines.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Solid understanding of generator and electrical theory.
- Trade school or manufacturer certification is preferred.
- Knowledge of diesel and gaseous engines and their fuel systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of the role and its impact on business objectives.
- Ability to meet performance goals set by the organization.
- Adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing as required.
- Proficient in computer applications, preferably in a Windows environment (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).
- Physical capability to lift 50 pounds and perform repetitive bending and twisting.
- Experience in servicing generators/engines from minor maintenance to major repairs.
- Maintain service vehicle, tools, and equipment in excellent condition.
- Flexibility to work varied hours and days.
- Dependable and capable of working independently.
- Exhibit professionalism and maintain positive client relations.
- Commitment to a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Meet minimum performance standards for all tasks.
- Safeguard company assets and interests.
- Standard working hours are Monday through Friday; 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Overtime and weekend work may be required.
- Outdoor work conditions.
- Continued employment and opportunities for advancement depend on successful completion of training programs sponsored by WPI and manufacturers.
