The Mission Planning Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting advanced space exploration initiatives. This position focuses on the JETS II contract and involves significant contributions to the future of human space travel.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Formulate innovative concepts and outline future human space exploration vehicles and missions.
  • Analyze upcoming Lunar mission campaigns, assessing constraints across various space vehicles including Gateway, Orion, and HLS.
  • Engage in requirements definition, flow-down, assessment, and verification processes.
  • Contribute to the development of operational concepts and software Verification and Validation (V&V) strategies.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify potential risks and formulate appropriate risk management strategies.
  • Review documentation for key milestone assessments such as CBR, PDR, CDR, etc.
  • Conduct Hazard Analyses.
  • Participate in HLS Project meetings and provide comprehensive summaries to technical leads.
  • Conduct trade studies and engage in stakeholder review processes.
  • Work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Report progress, challenges, and support requests to the team lead.
  • Maintain professional relationships with NASA customers, other contractors, and commercial partners.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status is required due to the sensitivity of customer-related information.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering is required, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Licenses and certifications may be necessary.
  • Experience in early program concept development and formulation is essential.
  • Proficiency in requirements development, design trades, operational concept development, risk analysis, and system analysis of space hardware.
  • Experience in creating operational concepts for single and multiple vehicle systems.
  • Knowledge of technology roadmap development and technology infusion planning.
  • Ability to gather and understand stakeholder needs.
  • Experience with interface definitions for vehicle subsystems and across multiple vehicles or mission elements.
  • Capability to create configuration growth plans and define incremental mission capabilities.
  • Experience with Test and Verification of spaceflight hardware.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering principles and associated documentation.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Degree in electrical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering.
  • Experience collaborating with various NASA organizations.
  • Experience working across different NASA centers.
  • Experience in hardware or software development projects.
  • Knowledge of space mission analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with human space exploration systems.
  • Basic understanding of common practices in the space hardware field.
  • INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with system architecture tools such as DoDAF and TODAF.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • This position offers a flexible 9/80 work schedule.
  • Some travel may be required.
