Power Systems Control Engineer

Position: Power Generation Controls Systems Engineer
Location: Las Vegas, NV (Onsite 5 days/week)
Contract Duration: 12 Months
Client: Saxon Global
Key Responsibilities:
- Control Systems Engineering: Deliver engineering design, support, and maintenance for Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS), including Emerson Ovation and GE Mark VI.
- Operational Technology Management: Develop and implement strategies for operational technology challenges, oversee obsolescence management, and promote system enhancements.
- Technical Guidance: Provide technical direction and project assistance for power generation control systems, troubleshooting and resolving issues in collaboration with operational teams.
- System Oversight: Manage and maintain control systems hardware and software, including updates, upgrades, and network administration.
- Collaboration with Vendors: Partner with control system software vendors and internal teams to resolve escalated issues and implement control system logic, display modifications, and custom functionalities.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare status reports, manage computing infrastructure, and oversee asset inventory.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience in Power Generation: Demonstrated experience in Power Generation Facilities or Plants.
- Industrial Control Systems Expertise: Practical experience with ICS.
- Distributed Control Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with DCS, particularly Emerson Ovation (preferred) or GE Mark VI.
- Control Systems Hardware Management: Experience in upgrading, patching, and managing control systems hardware.
Preferred Skills:
- VMware Proficiency: Understanding of VMware vSphere, including vSAN, ESXi, and vCenter.
- Networking Acumen: Knowledge of networking concepts and technologies.
- Scripting Abilities: Basic scripting knowledge.
Technical Skills:
- Server Management: Experience with server hardware and software, including deployment, maintenance, upgrades, and patching.
- Software and Security Management: Familiarity with software related to patching, antivirus management, configuration management, network and system monitoring, and security event monitoring.
Essential Duties:
- System Support: Provide control system software and hardware support for safe, optimal, and reliable operations.
- Troubleshooting Collaboration: Work with operations teams for troubleshooting and corrective actions related to instrumentation and programming logic.
- Control System Development: Develop control system logic and custom functions as necessary.
- Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with vendors for support on escalated issues.
- User Management: Oversee user accounts and coordinate local and site failovers for maintenance tasks.
- Testing and Updates: Test and apply security and application updates; assist with applying updates as needed.
- Infrastructure Oversight: Manage installed computing infrastructure and asset inventory.
- Project Assistance: Support capital and operations and maintenance projects from business case development to installation and commissioning.
Note: Must be onsite from Day 1 in Las Vegas, NV, and travel to multiple Power Generation Facilities in the Vegas area.
