Position: Power Generation Controls Systems Engineer

Location: Las Vegas, NV (Onsite 5 days/week)

Contract Duration: 12 Months

Client: Saxon Global

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engineering Support: Deliver engineering design, assistance, and upkeep for Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS), focusing on systems such as Emerson Ovation and GE Mark VI.
  • Operational Solutions: Create and execute strategies for addressing operational technology challenges, manage system obsolescence, and promote necessary upgrades.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide technical leadership and project assistance for power generation control systems, working closely with Operations and technical teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • System Oversight: Administer and sustain control systems hardware and software, including tasks related to patching, upgrades, and network management.
  • Collaboration with Vendors: Partner with control system software vendors and internal departments to resolve escalated issues and implement modifications to control system logic and displays.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Generate status reports, manage computing infrastructure, and supervise asset inventory.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Experience in Power Generation: Demonstrated experience in Power Generation Facilities or Plants.
  2. Industrial Control Systems Expertise: Practical experience with ICS.
  3. Distributed Control Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with DCS, particularly Emerson Ovation or GE Mark VI.
  4. Control Systems Hardware Management: Proficient in upgrading, patching, and managing control systems hardware.

Preferred Skills:

  1. VMware Proficiency: Understanding of VMware vSphere, including vSAN, ESXi, and vCenter.
  2. Networking Acumen: Knowledge of networking concepts and technologies.
  3. Scripting Ability: Basic skills in scripting.

Technical Competencies:

  • Server Management: Experience with server hardware and software, including deployment, maintenance, upgrades, and patching.
  • Software and Security Management: Familiarity with software related to patching, antivirus management, configuration management, network, and system monitoring, as well as security event monitoring.

Essential Duties:

  • System Support: Ensure control system software and hardware support for safe and reliable operations.
  • Troubleshooting: Collaborate with Operations for troubleshooting and corrective actions related to instrumentation and programming logic.
  • Control System Development: Create control system logic and custom functions as necessary.
  • Vendor Coordination: Liaise with vendors for support on escalated issues.
  • User Management: Oversee user accounts and coordinate local and site failovers for maintenance tasks.
  • Testing and Updates: Conduct testing and apply security and application updates; assist with updates as required.
  • Infrastructure Management: Supervise installed computing infrastructure and asset inventory.
  • Project Support: Assist with capital and operations and maintenance projects from development to installation and commissioning.

Note: Must be onsite from Day 1 in Las Vegas, NV, and travel to multiple Power Generation Facilities in the Vegas area.
