Job Summary:

General Dynamics NASSCO-Norfolk is seeking a highly skilled Quality Assurance Inspector to join our team. As a Quality Assurance Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring that all quality assurance activities are conducted in accordance with company policies and procedures, as well as applicable laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Witness or perform and document inspections and tests at key points in the work process.
  • Create written records to document inspection results and provide supporting documentation to the Test and Inspection Plan.
  • Ensure all QA inspection equipment being utilized is calibrated and certified under the company's calibration process/programs.
  • Evaluate results from tests and inspections to determine acceptability.
  • Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results.
  • Conduct in-process inspections to ensure correct materials, proper fabrication and installation procedures are utilized during the production process.
  • Perform monitoring and surveillance of shipboard production processes for compliance to standards requirements.
  • Research standards and specification requirements to develop monitoring/surveillance plans.
  • Organize and report test results.
  • Perform specialized inspections.
  • Review all Work Specification items, drawings, technical manuals, NAVSEA Standard Items or other contract documentation to ensure all Testing and Inspection requirements are identified or captured in the TIP.
  • Preparation and distribution of weekly QA metrics.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to acquire NDT Level II VT inspector qualification within three months of assignment.
  • Must have knowledge in Basic Microsoft applications.
  • Must be familiar with and with assistance be able to research applicable NAVSEA Standard Items, OSHA standards, and regulatory body regulations, drawings, specifications, and technical manuals.
  • Must be able to obtain a basic knowledge of the Test and Inspection Plan in order to conduct inspections.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to assist with conducting in-process inspections to ensure correct materials, proper fabrication and installation procedures are utilized during the production process.
  • Must be able to conduct in work process surveillances.
  • Must have knowledge of ship repair procedures and familiarity with various trades related to inspections, including welding, structural, machinery, electrical, piping and ventilation.
  • Must have basic knowledge of quality assurance principles and quality techniques.
  • Must be able to learn of Process Control Procedure/ CWP requirements.
  • Must be able to work in all locations where inspections are required, including but not limited to tanks, voids, cofferdams and elevated locations.
  • Must have good housekeeping skills.
  • Must be able to read and understand a marine chemist certificate.
  • Must know how to take care of tools and equipment used in the trade.
  • Must know what Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to use and when.
  • Must be able to identify safety hazards.
  • Must be able to perform their job safely.
  • Must be able to navigate a ship and understand compartment designation.
  • Must have a knowledge of WAF Requirements.
  • Must be OSHA 10 hour trained, or have the ability to be trained.
  • Must have Rapid Gate access or be eligible to obtain Rapid Gate access.
  • Must be able to understand, read and write proficient in English.

Working Relationships:

Reports to QA Supervisor or QA Manager. Maintains internal contact with Receiving, Safety and Production. Outside contact includes sub-contractors and government or Navy personnel. Must be a team player.
