Position Overview:
Reporting directly to the Director of Events, the Event Manager is responsible for overseeing all facets of assigned events, from initial planning through to event conclusion and settlement. This role includes advancing events, managing part-time event staff, and contributing to the formulation and execution of departmental policies, programs, and procedures.

Compensation:
The salary for this position ranges from $45,000 to $53,000.

Venue Highlights:
The Donald L. Tucker Civic Center boasts a 12,500-seat arena, 34 luxury suites, 476 club seats, and over 54,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space, along with an arena-view restaurant, the Spotlight Grille. The venue serves as the home for Florida State Men's and Women's basketball and is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and strong home court advantage. It is also utilized for trade shows, large catered events, receptions, religious gatherings, and educational classes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of events assigned by the Director of Events.
  • Provide detailed descriptions of venue services and how they are coordinated for clients.
  • Offer advice and recommendations based on client preferences while adhering to budget constraints.
  • Create setup diagrams using AutoCAD based on event requirements for client approval.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to ensure event setups meet client specifications and comply with safety regulations.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Food and Beverage, chefs, and catering managers regarding event needs.
  • Schedule and manage IATSE labor for arena events as necessary.
  • Prepare and distribute comprehensive event data sheets prior to each event.
  • Update event estimates as required and complete final settlements post-event.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving abilities, make prompt decisions, and delegate tasks while maintaining professionalism in high-pressure situations.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to event personnel.
  • Act as the manager on duty as scheduled.
  • Handle hiring, performance evaluations, scheduling, training, and development of approximately 20 part-time event staff.
  • Compile staffing reports, track part-time staff hours, and approve time for part-time employees.
  • Develop and maintain the events department's policies and procedures manual.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred experience in coordinating banquets, trade shows, conferences, meetings, and weddings.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a public assembly facility with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in facility management, hospitality management, business management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including long hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated positive, professional, and customer-focused attitude.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and internet software.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Understanding of crowd management techniques, customer service principles, and safety regulations.
