Position Overview: Advanced Practice Provider - Orthopedics

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Advanced Practice Provider plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive patient care within the orthopedic department. This position focuses on health promotion and the management of both acute and chronic conditions. Collaborating closely with physicians, the provider will deliver medical services, document patient data, and conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Responsibilities also include performing first assist duties in the operating room and managing surgical wound closures as necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role encompasses responsibilities in both outpatient office settings and hospital rounds, requiring flexibility for nights and weekends.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to aid in identifying medical and surgical issues, prescribing appropriate treatments, and ensuring high-quality patient care. Engages in research activities as a Primary Investigator or Sub-Investigator in clinical trials.
  2. Gathers patient histories, performs physical assessments, and meticulously documents findings in patient records. Prepares comprehensive patient workups and summaries, ensuring a thorough understanding of each patient's psychosocial history relevant to their care.
  3. Orders and interprets laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures, clearly explaining the necessity and expected outcomes to patients. Secures informed consent and collaborates with specialists as required.
  4. Executes therapeutic interventions such as applying and removing casts, suturing wounds, and changing dressings. Monitors patient progress, communicates updates to supervising physicians, and maintains detailed records of each patient's status.
  5. Formulates diagnoses and develops treatment plans for patients, providing education on their conditions and promoting healthy lifestyle choices. Conducts follow-up examinations post-procedures and hospitalizations.
  6. Offers clinical guidance and serves as a resource for office staff in the absence of physicians.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Proficiency in electronic medical records systems is essential.

Strong teamwork and communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.

Understanding of legal considerations impacting the practice of advanced practice providers.

Demonstrated leadership capabilities while maintaining professionalism.

Capacity to build strong relationships within the healthcare team and with patients.

Problem-solving skills to navigate diverse situations with limited standardization.

Ability to interpret various forms of instructions, whether written, oral, or diagrammatic.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Qualified candidates should possess 1-2 years of experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, with a preference for experience in an orthopedic medical environment.

A Master's or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited PA program and National Board Certification is required.

Alternatively, candidates may be licensed as a Nurse and authorized to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Georgia, holding National Certification.

CERTIFICATIONS:

CPR and ACLS certifications are mandatory.
