Position Overview: Advanced Practice Provider - Orthopedics
ROLE SUMMARY:
The Advanced Practice Provider in Orthopedics is responsible for delivering a range of patient care services aligned with established medical standards. This role focuses on health promotion alongside the management of acute and chronic conditions. The provider collaborates with physicians to deliver comprehensive medical services, including data collection, diagnostic procedures, and direct patient care, which encompasses physical examinations, diagnoses, and treatment plans. Additionally, the provider may assist in surgical procedures and perform wound closure as necessary.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position entails working in both an outpatient clinic and hospital settings, with a requirement for evening and weekend shifts.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to aid in identifying medical and surgical issues, prescribing appropriate treatments, and ensuring high-quality patient care. Analyze diagnostic test results and take necessary actions within the scope of practice. Engage in research activities as a Primary Investigator or Sub-Investigator in clinical studies.
- Gather patient histories, perform physical assessments, and document findings in patient records; create progress notes and comprehensive patient summaries highlighting significant findings; obtain relevant psychosocial histories and establish therapeutic relationships with patients.
- Order and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic evaluations; communicate the purpose, preparation, and expected outcomes of these procedures to patients. Secure informed consent and liaise with specialists as required.
- Execute therapeutic interventions such as casting, suturing, and dressing changes; monitor patient progress, report findings to supervising physicians, and maintain detailed records of patient advancements, consulting with supervising physicians when progress does not align with expected outcomes.
- Formulate diagnoses and develop treatment plans for patients. Provide education on disease management and healthy lifestyle choices. Conduct follow-up examinations post-procedures, hospital stays, or surgeries.
- Offer clinical guidance and serve as a resource for office staff in the absence of physicians.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Proficiency in electronic medical record systems.
Ability to function effectively as part of a healthcare team.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with team members and patients.
Capability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Understanding of legal considerations affecting the practice of advanced practice providers.
Leadership skills to maintain professionalism and foster effective relationships within the healthcare environment.
Problem-solving abilities to navigate diverse and complex situations.
Ability to interpret various forms of instructions, whether written, oral, or diagrammatic.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Qualified candidates should possess 1-2 years of experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, with a preference for experience in an orthopedic medical environment.
A Master's or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited PA program and National Board Certification is required.
Alternatively, candidates must be licensed as a Nurse and authorized to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Georgia, holding National Certification.
CERTIFICATIONS:
CPR/ACLS certification is mandatory.
