Position Overview:

The South Florida Water Management District is seeking a skilled Instrumentation Control Technician to engage in a variety of tasks that encompass the installation, calibration, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of both new and existing automated systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct installation, calibration, and preventive maintenance on complex electrical and electronic instruments, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), motor controls, and variable frequency drives.
  • Troubleshoot and calibrate closed-loop automated systems and electrical controls.
  • Assemble, troubleshoot, and service electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical modules from schematics and verbal instructions.
  • Document and update technical reports, drawings, equipment data sheets, and operation manuals.
  • Test circuit continuity to ensure compatibility and safety using various testing instruments.
  • Evaluate installed equipment to identify hazards and recommend necessary adjustments or replacements.
  • Diagnose and replace faulty wiring, cables, and malfunctioning electrical apparatus.
  • Plan and execute the layout, installation, and repair of conduit, wiring, and control equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with specifications and local electrical codes.
  • Analyze and interpret test data; may involve editing PLC programs.
  • Collaborate with various departments and contractors to ensure high-quality installations.
  • Stay updated on new technologies and recommend improvements to procedures and equipment.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff.

Qualifications:

To qualify for this role, candidates should possess:
  • An Associate's Degree in a relevant field such as Electronics Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in the instrumentation control field.
  • Working towards or holding an International Society of Automation's Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) Level I Certification.
  • A valid State of Florida Driver's License.

Physical Requirements:

This position may require support during emergency situations, including major storm events. The work environment can be challenging, with the potential for high temperatures and humidity. Candidates should be capable of lifting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
