Are you an accomplished engineer with a passion for developing and applying a wide range of engineering skills to deliver innovative solutions? The Engineering Services Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is in search of a dedicated professional to fill the role of Quality Assurance Field Engineer. As an essential member of the ES-DO team, you will play a crucial role in executing the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program at LANL, supporting modifications and new installations across various facilities, including nuclear and non-nuclear sites.

Quality Assurance Engineer 2 ($92,300 - $151,000):
In this capacity, you will offer field engineering support by reviewing construction submissions, providing technical clarifications during construction, ensuring compliance with design specifications, identifying potential design conflicts, scheduling inspections, documenting quality assurance processes, and facilitating the commissioning of completed work. You will also evaluate design documents for constructability and assist in developing quality management plans for construction projects while mentoring junior engineers.

Quality Assurance Engineer 3 ($101,700 - $168,200):
In this advanced role, you will lead field engineering efforts by reviewing construction submissions, providing technical clarifications, ensuring compliance with design specifications, and identifying design conflicts. You will be responsible for developing and documenting quality assurance processes, mentoring junior engineers, and reviewing design documents for constructability.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
  • Strong knowledge of construction engineering principles.
  • Expertise in interpreting engineering design documents and specifications.
  • Proficiency in construction industry standards and codes.
  • Ability to collaboratively solve problems in the field.
  • Certification in relevant commercial inspection disciplines.
Additional Requirements for Quality Assurance Engineer 3:
  • Extensive experience in reviewing engineering documents for completeness.
  • Excellent communication skills in both oral and written formats.
  • At least 8 years of practical experience in field verification of construction work.
  • Experience in construction work planning and control methods.
  • Ability to review material requisitions for compliance with specifications.
  • Experience in mentoring early career engineers.
Education:
For both levels, a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related field is required, along with relevant experience.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Registered Engineer in Training (EIT) or licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Advanced technical degree is preferred.
  • Experience with DOE/NNSA codes and standards.
  • Familiarity with LANL Engineering Standards.
Work Environment:
This position requires onsite work at Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Information:
This role requires a favorable decision by NNSA for employment suitability. A background investigation will be conducted, and a Q clearance is necessary.
