Position Overview

The Engineering Services Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory is dedicated to developing and applying a comprehensive range of engineering capabilities that provide innovative solutions in support of the Laboratory's scientific and national security objectives.

This role is situated within the Engineering Services Division Office (ES-DO), where various groups are tasked with executing the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program to facilitate modifications and new installations of systems, structures, and components.

This position encompasses support for nuclear, accelerator, or non-nuclear facilities across a vast area, fostering a workplace culture that emphasizes mutual respect and inclusivity, ensuring a discrimination-free environment for all.


Note:

This position may be filled at either the Construction Quality Assurance Engineer 3 or 4 level, contingent upon the qualifications of the selected candidate. Additional responsibilities will be assigned based on the level of hire.


Key Responsibilities:
Construction Quality Assurance Engineer 3:
  • Provide field engineering leadership by reviewing construction submissions and clarifying technical designs during the construction phase.
  • Ensure installations comply with design specifications and manufacturer instructions, while identifying potential design conflicts promptly.
  • Schedule and oversee testing and inspections of constructed work, and lead the development of quality assurance and control processes.
  • Assist in preparing constructed work for commissioning and facilitate the transition of completed projects to operational facilities.
Construction Quality Assurance Engineer 4:
  • In addition to the responsibilities at the lower level, you will develop quality management plans and quality control systems for construction projects.
  • Support the Team Lead in project planning, staffing, and recruitment efforts.
  • Prepare and implement institutional-level QA policies and procedures, and mentor laboratory personnel in understanding and applying these standards.
Qualifications:
For Construction Quality Assurance Engineer 3:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related field, along with 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to interpret engineering design documents and ensure their completeness and constructability.
  • Experience in conducting field verifications of construction work to enforce compliance with specifications and standards.
For Construction Quality Assurance Engineer 4:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related field, with 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience with QAE activities, including audits, assessments, and compliance documentation.
  • Knowledge of national consensus standards and weapons quality requirements is essential.
Desired Skills:
  • Registered Engineer in Training (EIT) or licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly preferred.
  • Experience with industry codes and standards relevant to the construction discipline.
