We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Director of Business Development and Technology Transfer to join our team at The Regents of the University of California on behalf of their Los Angeles Campus. This is a 3-Year contract position with the possibility of extension and/or career conversion.
About the PositionThe UCLA Technology Development Group serves as a campus-wide gateway to Innovation, Research, and Entrepreneurship. Our mission is to promote UCLA innovation, research, teaching, and entrepreneurship to benefit society; create economic value to support UCLA's scholarly and educational missions and the State of California; and lead UCLA's research community to bring innovation to market.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute business development strategies to identify and pursue licensing opportunities for UCLA's intellectual property portfolio.
- Collaborate with faculty members, researchers, and industry partners to evaluate the commercial potential of inventions and technologies.
- Negotiate and draft license agreements, research collaborations, and other business arrangements to advance UCLA's technology transfer goals.
- Supervise and mentor a team of business development professionals to ensure effective execution of business development strategies.
- Develop and maintain relationships with industry partners, investors, and other stakeholders to promote UCLA's technology transfer activities.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, market developments, and regulatory changes to ensure UCLA's technology transfer activities remain competitive and compliant.
- 6+ years of experience in technology transfer or equivalent business experience.
- Demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating contracts.
- Supervising professional staff.
- Ability to analyze technical data using logic and quantitative reasoning.
- General knowledge of accounting principles and finance.
- Expert knowledge of University patent, equity, and publication rights policies.
- Expert knowledge of copyright and patent law.
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse, multicultural environment.
- Must possess scientific knowledge in the areas of research being conducted by University researchers.
- Must have broad industry knowledge.
- Must possess advanced business and financial knowledge.
- Must have in-depth knowledge of United States and foreign patent laws.
- Must be familiar with legal and business contracts and procedures.
- Must possess the capability of dealing with University academic and administrative staff, attorneys, and business professionals.
- Bachelor's degree in a related area.
- Master's degree preferred.
