We are currently seeking a Tax Transformation Manager to become part of our Tax Transformation team within the internal Marcum IT department. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate closely with Tax business leaders and subject matter experts to identify, define, and deliver technology solutions that yield significant business impact and growth for our firm. The ideal candidate will enhance our operational processes, drive standardization, and spearhead change management initiatives.

This position demands an innovative professional with a profound understanding of tax processes and technology. Your capability to effectively manage projects, engage with stakeholders, and remain abreast of technological advancements will be essential for your success as a Tax Transformation Manager.

Key Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of combined experience in tax technology and tax compliance within a multinational organization or public accounting firm; at least 3 years in a tax compliance role is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of the end-to-end tax compliance engagement life cycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex projects and solutions simultaneously.
  • Proven success in independently leading a team to gather and document business requirements, test, and implement solutions.
  • Experience in developing business cases for technology investments, including build vs buy analysis, anticipated benefits, return on investment (ROI), and resource requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify business needs, evaluate options, and recommend effective solutions.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at various levels.
  • Knowledge of emerging tax technology trends and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency with workflow design software, such as Visio.
  • Extensive knowledge of tax and accounting-specific software such as the CS Professional Suite/GoSystem Tax RS/GoFileRoom, CCH ProSystem fx/Axcess, or similar.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with the Agile development process.
  • Broad exposure to implementing solutions across various business lines within tax, including individual, partnership, and corporate.
  • Proficiency in work item management systems such as Smartsheet, Azure DevOps, and Jira.
  • Experience collaborating with business intelligence teams to design dashboards using tools like PowerBI or Tableau, and practical experience with API-based workflow automation platforms, such as Microsoft PowerAutomate.
  • Active or inactive CPA license.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead cross-functional teams to evaluate current tax processes, identify improvement opportunities, and implement best practices for tax compliance and consulting services.
  • Manage tax transformation projects, including software implementations, process automation, and system enhancements from conceptualization through to implementation.
  • Facilitate and lead discovery workshops; manage teams to document current and future states, gather and document business requirements, ensuring all stakeholders have a clear understanding of business needs and proposed solutions.
  • Develop business cases for technology investments, detailing the scope, anticipated benefits, ROI, projected timelines, and resource needs.
  • Oversee complex projects, ensuring timely completion and that deliverables meet project objectives, including developing detailed project plans and coordinating with internal and external teams.
  • Identify and track KPIs and metrics to assess the success of technology initiatives.
  • Build expertise in all aspects of products and processes within the tax service line through a comprehensive understanding of existing processes and business needs.
  • Evaluate and advise on new technologies, vendors, and products while staying updated with industry trends.
  • Provide training and support to tax team members and stakeholders on the effective use of tax technology tools and systems, leading change management efforts for smooth adoption of new solutions.
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders across Marcum LLP.
Travel Requirements:
  • Less than 10% travel.
