Position Overview:
Marcum LLP is actively seeking a Senior Business Analyst for our Tax Transformation team within the internal IT department. In this capacity, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Tax Professionals, IT, and Operations, to:
  • Identify and address process inefficiencies.
  • Drive standardization where applicable.
  • Utilize technology platforms and automation to enhance efficiency.
  • Manage data to deliver business intelligence to internal teams and external clients.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in a tax role within a medium or large tax/accounting environment, with at least 2 years in a business analysis or tax technology role. This position requires a unique blend of technical expertise, creativity, and design capabilities. Candidates must demonstrate extensive experience in understanding and documenting process workflows, user stories, and business requirements, as well as proficiency in Microsoft products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Visio, and tax software.

Key Requirements:
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in a tax role within a medium or large tax/accounting environment, including 2 years in a business analysis or tax technology position.
  • Experience in documenting process workflows, use cases, and user stories.
  • Advanced knowledge of tax applications and workflows.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret business needs and translate them into functional requirements.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), Visio, and Adobe.
  • Advanced data extraction and transformation skills using Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Innovative mindset with a focus on transformation.
  • Prior experience with tax software applications.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Management, Computer Science, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active CPA designation or willingness to reactivate certification.
  • Experience in a public accounting firm tax department.
  • Knowledge of APIs, ETL, and BOT/AI/RPA tools.

Responsibilities:
  • Assess and document current state processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement through automation and reengineering.
  • Gather and document stakeholder requirements.
  • Prepare user stories and process diagrams for development.
  • Understand the use of current tax tools and best practices.
  • Work with Project Managers or self-manage projects from inception to completion, depending on size and scope.
  • Collaborate with Business Intelligence colleagues to develop dashboards with KPIs and other key metrics.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across Marcum LLP practice groups.
  • Track project success through metric tracking and prepare status reports.
  • Provide initial training and product documentation for users.
  • Learn and understand Marcum tax processes and technology stack.
  • Evaluate and advise on new technologies, vendors, and products while staying updated with industry trends.

Travel Requirements:
  • Less than 10% travel required.
