Position Overview:

  • Assists the anesthesia and ambulatory surgery facility (ASF) team by providing essential support. Responsible for overseeing equipment and inventory within the operating room and ensuring optimal environmental conditions in the ASF. Manages the ordering and stocking of supplies utilized for anesthesia and surgical procedures, as well as the setup, cleanup, and maintenance of equipment necessary for anesthesia and surgical care. Demonstrates proficiency in preparing operating room suites for the administration of anesthesia, surgical, and nursing care. Participates in patient care delivery under the direct supervision of the RN or physician.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain daily inventory of supplies and restock as necessary, including IV fluids, needles, and syringes.
  • Daily stocking of the regional anesthesia block cart and replenishing supplies throughout the day as needed.
  • Restock supply carts, scrub sink areas, cast carts, and anesthesia supply areas. Ensure soap dispensers are filled throughout the unit.
  • Monitor cleanliness of OR bathrooms, ensuring adequate supplies of soap and paper products.
  • Set up and dismantle equipment required for ORs and anesthesia areas.
  • Provide environmental services and room turnover as requested.
  • Check for depletion of sodalime in CO2 absorbers after each use and replace as necessary.
  • Set up and replace breathing circuits and conduct leak tests.
  • Collect and sterilize laryngoscope blades and LMAs using the Steris 1 System.
  • Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize the Sonosite ultrasound machine and all reusable items, ensuring availability of necessary probes and supplies.
  • Understand the distinction between high-level disinfecting and sterilizing equipment.
  • Adhere to aseptic and sterile techniques, disposing of contaminated materials per infection control policies.
  • Transport waste to the designated area as needed.
  • Keep OR equipment clean and ready for use, identifying and reporting faulty equipment as per protocol.
  • Maintain post-operative beds in the hallway, preparing them for transport as required.
  • Ensure hallways and the overall appearance of the OR and PACU are neat, clean, and organized.
  • Run errands as directed, including the pickup and delivery of specimens, cultures, CPD items, pharmacy items, and mail.
  • Effectively manage communication with staff, physicians, patients, and families, demonstrating courtesy, compassion, and respect.
  • Deliver safe and proper care to patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician.
  • Assist with patient transfers to and from the OR bed as needed, escorting patients to and from the OR.
  • Utilize Universal Precautions when interacting with patients and assist with the application of monitoring devices, providing support during anesthesia administration.
  • Assist with the positioning and transfer of patients and equipment, checking anesthesia machines prior to induction.
  • Demonstrate the ability to set up and calibrate all anesthesia equipment and instrumentation, ensuring proper maintenance.
  • Capable of troubleshooting equipment issues and understanding procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment is available and set up.
Qualifications:
  • Certification as an Anesthesia Technician.
  • High School Diploma or GED (Required).
  • Education Specialization: Equivalent Experience: 1+ years of previous hospital experience.
  • Graduate of an Anesthesia Technician program or related field.
