Job Title: Building Inspector/Plan Reviewer Lead Electrical

Job Summary:

The Building Inspector/Plan Reviewer Lead Electrical will lead a team of lower-level building code inspectors and plan reviewers to ensure compliance with state and local regulations, safety codes, laws, and standards. This role involves performing plan reviews and inspections, ranging from moderate to highly complex work, and coordinating functions or projects in various stages of completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide technical leadership to other building code inspectors and plan reviewers in the performance of their duties and responsibilities.
  2. Assist the Certified Building Official with everyday activities related to residential and commercial construction.
  3. Examine plans and specifications to determine compliance with the Bernalillo County Building Ordinance and state and national certified disciplines.
  4. Perform field inspections, including moderate to highly complex work, and coordinate with property owners, contractors, and the public to interpret and explain rules, regulations, ordinances, and standards.
  5. Participate in the review and development of departmental procedures and attend local and state advisory committees.
  6. Develop and facilitate training sessions and respond to technical inquiries and court proceedings as necessary.
  7. Prepare reports on inspections and maintain files on related documents.
  8. Perform systems administrator duties for the building code inspector/plan reviewer database.
  9. Coordinate special projects and perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED and nine years of experience in general construction, including journeyman level experience in electrical construction. They must also possess International Code Council certified building inspector certification or obtain it within nine months from date of hire and be a State of New Mexico certified inspector for the individual's primary discipline.

Working Conditions:

Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors, and the worker is exposed to occasional vibration and noise factors while performing building inspection duties at construction sites. The worker may be exposed to fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, and poor ventilation in the performance of essential duties.

Equipment, Tools, and Materials:

The worker uses a variety of office machines, including a main frame computer, Xerox copiers, and other office machines, communication devices, and a wide variety of work aids, including construction documents, plans, books, binders, and files, hard hat, gloves, tape measure, architectural scales, and camera.
