Building Safety Supervisor

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Safety Supervisor to join our team at the City of Albuquerque, NM. As a key member of our Building Safety Division, you will be responsible for directing and managing assigned programs and activities, ensuring compliance with electrical and elevator codes, regulations, and ordinances.
Key Responsibilities- Direct, manage, and supervise assigned programs and activities within the Building Safety Division Electrical Section.
- Assign, review, and participate in the work of staff responsible for performing electrical inspections.
- Ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures.
- Coordinate assigned activities with other divisions and outside agencies.
- Provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Chief Building Official.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in construction management or electrical engineering.
- Five (5) years of experience in the inspection of commercial or industrial buildings and their associated electrical systems.
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
- Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
- Possession of a certification issued by the State of New Mexico as an Electrical Inspector.
- Possession of an Electrical Inspection Certification issued by the International Code Council or the International Association of Electrical Inspectors for both residential and commercial.
- Operations, services, and activities of a building inspection program, including applicable skilled trades inspections.
- Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
- Methods and techniques of reviewing drawings, plans, and specifications to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
- Advanced mathematical principles.
- Modern and complex principles and practices of building inspection, including inspection of electrical, swimming pool, or elevator installations for code enforcement.
- Pertinent electrical code and other related codes and ordinances.
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Occupational hazards and standard safety procedures.
- Governing construction building codes, standards, and ordinances.
- Oversee, direct, and coordinate the work of lower-level staff.
- Supervise and perform complex field inspections.
- Select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
- Interpret and explain City policies and procedures.
- Perform basic electrical engineering calculations.
- Read and interpret plans, specifications, and blueprints.
- Review and analyze drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Perform field inspections and code enforcement.
- Prepare clear and concise reports.
- Use computer software applications associated with permitting and inspections.
- Communicate clearly and concisely.
- Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including City officials and the general public.
