Job Overview

Position Title: Elders Council Coordinator

Compensation: $22.13 per hour

Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Location: Siletz

Position Summary:

The Elders Council Coordinator is responsible for the organization and management of various events and activities tailored for the Elders Council. This role includes overseeing transportation logistics, monitoring the Elders Council budget, and providing regular reports to both the Elders Council and the Social and Human Services Director.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and distribute newsletters for Elders, including articles on activities and relevant information for the Tribal community.
  • Maintain and regularly update the mailing list for Elders.
  • Assist in coordinating cultural activities for Elders in collaboration with Area Office Supervisors and cultural staff.
  • Manage reservations for accommodations, purchase transportation tickets, and coordinate all logistical aspects of Elders' activities.
  • Process financial requests for Elders' trips and related events, including meetings and conferences.
  • Provide information and referral services to Elders.
  • Support the Title VI Elders Program Coordinator as needed, including administrative tasks such as typing, filing, and scheduling.
  • Assist with sorting and distributing daily correspondence.
  • Attend regular meetings of the Elders Council and maintain communication with the Elders Chairman.
  • Provide physical assistance to Tribal Elders during events and outings, including lifting and moving items as needed.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports for the Social and Human Services Director and the Elders Council.
  • Offer backup support to ensure continuity of services for Tribal Elders, with cross-training opportunities available.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or GED with two years of clerical experience in an office environment, or a combination of specialized education and experience.

Knowledge: Proficient in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Experience:

  • Proficient in word processing, database management, and spreadsheet software.
  • Familiar with office equipment including computers, photocopiers, and multi-user telephone systems.
  • Experience in public relations and maintaining positive relationships with co-workers and the Tribal community.
  • Knowledge of services and programs available to Tribal Elders.

Skills:

  • Able to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds or more.
  • Skilled in planning, organizing, and facilitating activities for Elders.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Other Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Oregon State Driver's License and auto insurance, with the ability to operate a multi-seat vehicle.
  • Commitment to confidentiality as per applicable regulations.
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire.
