Traveling Phlebotomy Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team as a Traveling Phlebotomy Specialist. As a key member of our laboratory department, you will be responsible for performing specimen collection procedures, processing specimens, and promoting good public relations and professional attitude.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary collection procedures as needed.
- Process specimens appropriately, including proper patient identification.
- Promote good public relations and professional attitude for the laboratory department and facility.
- Assist in departmental training of new employees and students.
- Participate in maintaining an efficient and productive work area.
- Maintain and prepare adequate levels of supplies, rotating inventory as needed.
- Perform point of care testing and report results accurately and in a timely manner.
- Rejection and recollection of specimens based on criteria as needed.
- Participate in continuing education and proficiency surveys as needed.
- Report instrument or procedure failures to supervisor or appropriate personnel.
- Participate in required laboratory/facility meetings.
- Review required/mandatory laboratory/facility policies or procedures in a timely manner.
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Clean, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Adhere to and monitor quality assurance programs and activities to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results.
- Provide technical information about tests to physicians, other providers, and patients as required.
- Respond appropriately to collection of patient samples deemed as Routine, Timed, or STAT.
- Knowledgeable of methods and procedures in regards to age-specific competency guidelines.
- Maintain current knowledge and adherence of hospital/facility policy, state, federal, and other regulatory requirements.
- Manage and operate laboratory equipment safely and correctly.
- Consult with other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
- Review pending and outstanding reports on every shift and follow up to resolve outstanding specimens.
Requirements:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Courses in biology, chemistry, and computer preferred.
- Certification in phlebotomy preferred but not required.
