ROLE SUMMARY:

The Clinical Social Services Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive social work services to patients and their families within a healthcare environment. This role includes conducting initial emotional, spiritual, and psychosocial evaluations, delivering ongoing counseling, offering bereavement support, and facilitating community education, outreach, and referrals. The social worker plays a crucial role in the interdisciplinary team.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Possess a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), along with a minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare setting.
  2. Hold a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited institution, with at least one year of healthcare experience, and be supervised by an MSW with equivalent experience. BSWs employed prior to a specified date may be exempt from supervision requirements.
  3. Have a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, or a related field, coupled with at least one year of social work experience in a healthcare environment, under the supervision of an MSW with relevant experience.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, make sound judgments, and respond effectively to crises outside of clinical settings. A strong acceptance of diverse social, racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds is essential.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of two years of experience in social work is preferred, with active patient interaction within the last three years being advantageous.

JOB FACTORS:

Physical Demands: The role requires minimal physical exertion throughout the day, including activities such as kneeling, reaching, and walking. Candidates must be able to manage the lifting and transferring of patients weighing up to 20 pounds. Vision and hearing capabilities, or appropriate adaptive devices, are necessary to fulfill essential job functions. Compliance with annual health screenings is required.

Mental Demands: Candidates must be capable of independent work, making informed decisions based on assessments and available data. Flexibility, creativity, and strong interpersonal skills are vital, along with the ability to handle emotional and mental stress effectively.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Applicants should be prepared to work in environments that may expose them to various elements, including odors and bodily fluids, as well as adverse conditions and hazardous materials.

TRANSPORTATION: A valid driver's license, auto liability insurance, and reliable transportation are required for this position.
