Talascend is seeking a skilled Proposal Engineer to join our team.


Position Summary:

The Proposal Engineer collaborates with Sales Managers to effectively market products and services by leveraging technical expertise, organizational skills, and customer insights. This role is pivotal in crafting technical proposals and engaging with clients to devise solutions that meet their specifications, ultimately leading to contract agreements.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the integrity of proposals by assessing, analyzing, and providing guidance on contract matters and business risks.
  • Oversee and coordinate bid preparation and strategy with relevant departments to meet technical, estimating, scheduling, and risk management criteria.
  • Facilitate internal communications across departments to enhance proposal development and address any challenges.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of processes and standards to ensure consistent proposal delivery.
  • Support Sales Managers in adhering to proposal timelines and workflows efficiently while fostering interdepartmental relationships.
  • Collaborate with Sales Managers to identify client needs and formulate commercial and technical proposals based on the provided requests for quotation (RFQ).
  • Help manage resources such as engineering, sales, drafting/design, and estimating to produce compliant commercial proposals that align with industry standards.
  • Ensure competitive pricing is utilized in project cost estimations.
  • Provide ongoing support to all departments post-contract award as necessary.

Sales Engagement:

Assist Sales Managers with presentations, qualification documents, and customer engagements. Stay informed on market trends to identify customer needs and suggest product enhancements when appropriate.


Sales Process Contributions:

Support Sales Managers in preparing and obtaining the following for technical proposals:

  • Cost Estimates
  • Scope of Supply
  • Technical Clarifications
  • System and Component Sizing
  • Utility Requirements Calculations
  • Mechanical Drawings

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a mechanical-related field; experience in the furnace industry is advantageous.
  • Proficient in interpreting mechanical, electrical, and process drawings.
  • Technical knowledge related to machinery and mechanical/thermal processes.
  • General understanding of the steel and/or furnace industry, including project timelines, sales cycles, and equipment procurement.
  • Familiarity with thermal and structural components of furnaces.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate effective problem-solving skills.

Technical Proficiency:

Familiarity with the following software is essential:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Spreadsheets
  • Charts/Graphs

Physical Requirements:

This role requires light physical effort, with regular sitting or standing, reaching, bending, and movement within the facility. Some travel may be necessary.


Work Environment:

Typical office conditions, free from unpleasant elements. Additional duties may be assigned as required.
