Position Summary:

We are seeking a driven and meticulous Civil Estimator with 2-3 years of relevant experience to become part of our Boston-based team. The successful candidate will possess a solid grounding in estimating practices and a keen interest in enhancing their capabilities in cost analysis and project budgeting. In this role, you will assist in the preparation of precise and competitive estimates for a wide array of civil engineering initiatives.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Estimate Development: Aid in creating comprehensive cost estimates for civil construction projects, including marine construction, bridge engineering, ventilation systems, railroad infrastructure, and sewer/drain/water utilities.
  • Bid Support: Facilitate the bidding process by collecting and evaluating quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, preparing bid submissions, and ensuring bid documents are accurate.
  • Cost Evaluation: Review project plans, specifications, and requirements to ascertain material, labor, and overhead costs. Identify potential risks and opportunities for cost efficiencies.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to gather essential information and guarantee precise estimates. Provide valuable insights during the estimating process.
  • Documentation Management: Create and maintain thorough documentation of estimates, including cost breakdowns, assumptions, and methodologies. Ensure all records are accurate and current.
  • Market Analysis: Assist in researching market trends, material costs, and industry benchmarks to ensure competitive and precise estimates. Foster relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Review Process: Contribute to the review of estimates and bid submissions to confirm alignment with project specifications. Assist in resolving any discrepancies or issues that may arise.
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates on estimating activities and project costs to senior estimators and project teams.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: 2-3 years of experience in civil estimating, with a foundational understanding of heavy civil construction projects. Familiarity with estimating software and tools is advantageous.
  • Technical Proficiency: Competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and familiarity with estimating software. Basic knowledge of construction methods, materials, and pricing is essential.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and mathematical abilities with the capacity to interpret project plans and specifications.
  • Communication Skills: Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate efficiently with team members and stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in preparing and reviewing estimates.
