Position Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Civil Estimator with 2-3 years of relevant experience to become part of our team in Boston. The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in estimating and a keen interest in enhancing their skills in cost analysis and project budgeting. As a Civil Estimator, you will assist in the preparation of precise and competitive estimates for our varied civil engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimate Development: Assist in formulating detailed cost estimates for civil construction projects, including marine construction, bridge engineering, ventilation systems, railroad infrastructure, and sewer/drain/water utilities.
  • Bid Support: Aid the bidding process by collecting and analyzing quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, preparing bid proposals, and reviewing bid documents for precision.
  • Cost Evaluation: Assess project plans, specifications, and requirements to ascertain material, labor, and overhead costs. Identify potential risks and opportunities for cost efficiencies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to gather necessary information and ensure accurate estimates. Provide insights and input during the estimating process.
  • Documentation Management: Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation of estimates, including cost breakdowns, assumptions, and methodologies. Ensure all records are precise and current.
  • Market Analysis: Assist in researching market trends, material costs, and industry standards to ensure competitive and accurate estimates. Foster relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Review and Validation: Contribute to the review of estimates and bid proposals to ensure alignment with project requirements. Assist in resolving any discrepancies or issues that arise.
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates on estimating activities and project costs to senior estimators and project teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2-3 years of experience in civil estimating, with a foundational understanding of heavy civil construction projects. Familiarity with estimating software and tools is preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and familiarity with estimating software. Basic knowledge of construction methods, materials, and pricing.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to interpret project plans and specifications.
  • Communication Skills: Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate efficiently with team members and stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing and reviewing estimates.
