Position Type: Full-time, 10-month, Benefits Eligible

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Lower School Principal, the Lower School Educator will execute the educational framework across various academic disciplines suitable for K-8 students, adhering to New York State Learning Standards to inspire and assist students in realizing their academic capabilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and implement lesson and unit plans that align with state standards and curriculum.
  • Develop and execute an engaging curriculum tailored for K-8 learners.
  • Adapt lesson plans and resources to accommodate students' diverse learning needs.
  • Seamlessly integrate technology into the educational environment (utilizing platforms such as Schoology and Google).
  • Create instructional materials for classroom use, including lesson plans, assessments, and assignments that engage all student abilities.
  • Maintain communication with families and guardians to keep them updated on their child's academic progress.
  • Provide individualized support to students facing specific learning challenges.
  • Oversee students outside the classroom during activities such as recess, field trips, or school events.
  • Track and assess student progress, providing grades as necessary.
  • Familiarity with IEPs and Career Transition Plans.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators and administrators, including related service providers, to offer tailored support for each student.
  • Engage with colleagues to exchange best practices and provide constructive feedback.
  • Contribute to the school's Strategic Planning initiatives, emphasizing a positive culture and demonstrating commitment to the institution's vision and mission.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Willingness to reflect on and enhance instructional methodologies.
  • Compassionate and driven; focused on achieving results.
  • Strong classroom management abilities, implementing positive behavior interventions.
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues, parents, and students.
  • In-depth knowledge of subject matter.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Understanding of child cognitive development and various learning styles.
  • Prior experience with Thinking Maps and Schoology is advantageous.
  • Strong skills in Google Suite are preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in Deaf Education or a related field.
  • New York State Teaching Certification.
  • Experience working with deaf students is highly preferred.

SECURITY CLEARANCE:

  • Required clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinting by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR, and SEL clearance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
