POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Lower School Principal, the Lower School Educator will execute the educational framework across various academic disciplines suitable for K-8 students, adhering to New York State Learning Standards to inspire and assist students in realizing their academic capabilities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and implement lesson and unit plans that align with state standards and curriculum.
- Develop and execute an engaging curriculum tailored for K-8 learners.
- Adapt lesson plans and resources to accommodate students' diverse learning needs.
- Seamlessly integrate technology into the educational environment (utilizing platforms such as Schoology and Google).
- Create instructional materials for classroom use, including lesson plans, assessments, and assignments that engage all student abilities.
- Maintain communication with families and guardians to keep them updated on their child's academic progress.
- Provide individualized support to students facing specific learning challenges.
- Oversee students outside the classroom during activities such as recess, field trips, or school events.
- Track and assess student progress, providing grades as necessary.
- Familiarity with IEPs and Career Transition Plans.
- Collaborate with fellow educators and administrators, including related service providers, to offer tailored support for each student.
- Engage with colleagues to exchange best practices and provide constructive feedback.
- Contribute to the school's Strategic Planning initiatives, emphasizing a positive culture and demonstrating commitment to the institution's vision and mission.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Willingness to reflect on and enhance instructional methodologies.
- Compassionate and driven; focused on achieving results.
- Strong classroom management abilities, implementing positive behavior interventions.
- Effective communication skills with colleagues, parents, and students.
- In-depth knowledge of subject matter.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
- Understanding of child cognitive development and various learning styles.
- Prior experience with Thinking Maps and Schoology is advantageous.
- Strong skills in Google Suite are preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master's degree in Deaf Education or a related field.
- New York State Teaching Certification.
- Experience working with deaf students is highly preferred.
SECURITY CLEARANCE:
- Required clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinting by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR, and SEL clearance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Capability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
