Position Overview:

Role: Elementary Educator for Lower School

Department: Curriculum Development

Reporting To: Principal of Lower School

Position Summary: The Elementary Educator will work closely with the Principal of Lower School to deliver a comprehensive educational program for K-8 learners, utilizing state standards to promote academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement stimulating lesson and unit plans that meet state educational standards.
  • Create and execute engaging curricula tailored for K-8 students.
  • Modify instructional plans to address diverse learning needs.
  • Integrate technology tools such as Schoology and Google into educational practices.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators and families to enhance student development.
  • Provide personalized support to students encountering learning obstacles.
  • Oversee student activities both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Assess and monitor student performance and learning outcomes.
  • Engage in cooperative efforts with colleagues and school leadership.
  • Contribute actively to the institution's mission and values.
  • Take on additional duties as required.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Commitment to improving teaching strategies.
  • Empathetic, goal-oriented, and focused on achieving results.
  • Strong classroom management and behavioral intervention capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with all stakeholders.
  • Expertise in subject matter and American Sign Language.
  • Understanding of cognitive development and varied learning styles.
  • Experience with Thinking Maps and Schoology is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite is an advantage.

Educational Background and Experience:

  • Master's degree in Deaf Education or a related discipline.
  • Valid Teaching Certification from New York State.
  • Experience working with deaf students is beneficial.

Security Requirements:

  • Clearances required include medical, fingerprinting, and SEL.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to remain seated or standing for extended durations.
  • Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 15 pounds.
