Position Summary
The JUNTA DE ACCION PUERTORRIQUENA INC is a leading human services organization dedicated to serving the diverse communities of Central New Jersey. Our mission is to empower individuals and families to foster personal, familial, and community growth through innovative programs.
The Educational Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting the Youth Department within the After-School Program. This program aims to enhance students' academic performance by at least one grade level while offering enriching activities that promote positive behaviors and skills. The Specialist is expected to be knowledgeable about fundamental educational practices and relevant school issues. Reporting to the Middle School Manager, this role ensures the effectiveness of the after-school initiative by maintaining accurate records of student and tutor participation and interactions. The Specialist also coordinates and integrates all student-tutor activities, ensuring they are data-driven and focused on improving student outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Educational Support Specialist
- Facilitates after-school homework assistance for students.
- Conducts educational workshops.
- Maintains records of student academic progress in challenging subjects.
- Manages attendance sheets for tutors and volunteers.
- Administers pre-and post-tests for workshops.
- Assists in the development and execution of monthly educational projects.
- Completes necessary documentation, including attendance records and incident reports.
- Ensures a safe environment for all participants.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Leads social-emotional enrichment workshops.
- Provides homework assistance and tutoring in difficult subjects.
- Participates in staff development training sessions.
- Records activities and workshops.
- Actively participates in community engagement efforts within Central New Jersey, including events and advocacy initiatives.
- Attends and contributes to internal meetings to enhance professional skills.
- Collaborates effectively to resolve organizational challenges.
- Maintains a professional demeanor and appearance.
- Prepares regular progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Completes other tasks as directed by the Middle School Manager.
- Preferred: Paraprofessional Certification from the local school system.
- Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- CPR/First Aid certification is a plus.
- Strong commitment to the organization's vision and mission.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Able to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
- Proven ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups.
- Ability to establish rapport with families and resolve conflicts.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks under pressure and meeting deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with community resources and needs in Central New Jersey.
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
- Exhibits maturity, integrity, and sound judgment.
- Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, and use hands for various tasks.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Primarily works in a school setting, with occasional duties outside of this environment.
- This is a part-time, hourly position.
- Hourly wage is based on experience and qualifications.
- Evening hours may be required.
