Overview:

The Buyer is responsible for managing the procurement of materials to ensure the seamless production of goods in alignment with customer demand. This role requires a commitment to maintaining purchase orders that meet customer expectations, including the possibility of weekend overtime as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee material supply to guarantee consistent production levels.
  2. Ensure that purchasing policies and MRP system configurations are aligned with actual practices and inventory goals.
  3. Maintain consistency of MRP settings across various software platforms, including ASI, GAINS, Agile, and WMS.
  4. Adhere to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the organization.
  5. Generate new purchase orders for components and manage existing orders based on demand forecasts.
  6. Handle purchase orders for non-inventory items such as tooling.
  7. Drive performance improvements to meet key performance indicators (KPIs) by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  8. Support the adoption of lean management principles relevant to purchasing, including Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI) and Standard Work (SW).
  9. Assist in resolving issues related to purchase orders, invoices, and receiving processes.
  10. Provide timely updates to Planners, Operations, and Customer Service regarding component availability.
  11. Review Material Condition Reports (MCRs) and liaise with suppliers for prompt replenishment of components.
  12. Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment on New Product Development (NPD) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO).
  13. Report on inventory metrics, including Days on Hand and Inventory Value.
  14. Communicate monthly forecasts to suppliers to ensure alignment.
  15. Review and maintain the cleanliness of component data related to planning in GAINS.
  16. Monitor supplier delivery performance to achieve a target of 98% on-time delivery.
  17. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Management, or a related field.

Experience: The ideal candidate will have a strong background in inventory planning and high-volume operations, with a minimum of 0-5 years of experience in material or supply chain planning within a Lean manufacturing environment.

Skills:

  • Proficient understanding of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and Engineering Bills of Materials (BOM).
  • Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work in an office environment and travel throughout the plant as necessary.
