Job Summary

The Quality Assurance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of our products and processes at Horst Engineering & Manufacturing Co. to meet customer and division quality requirements.

Main Responsibilities
  • Quality Review and Assurance
    • Reviews design specifications, operation procedures, process manuals, test protocols, procurement documents, quality standards, and inspection analyses to ensure compliance with customer and division quality requirements.
    • Supports the contract review process to ensure quality requirements are met.
  • Quality Support and Improvement
    • Provides quality support to the Engineering group with new product introductions and analysis of nonconforming products.
    • Interacts with the Customer Service Department to resolve customer issues and responds to customer complaints with effective process improvements.
  • Supplier Quality Management
    • Supports the Purchasing group with material procurement, special process, and approved supplier requirements.
    • Measures and monitors supplier performance to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Quality Metrics and Analysis
    • Generates quality metrics and reviews quality trends to mitigate process risk and institute process improvements.
    • Performs root cause analysis and corrective action using tools such as 8D and 5 Whys.
  • Quality Records and Compliance
    • Maintains quality records as required to ensure compliance with all regulations.
    • Implements new inspection tools and technology to improve quality and efficiency.
Requirements
  • A four-year degree (or 5 years of inspection experience) plus 2 to 3 years as a Quality Engineer or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of statistical process control and lean principles.
  • Requires knowledge of the company quality system and contractual quality requirements.
  • Ability to validate inspections, interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) blueprints, and perform shop math (including trigonometry).
  • Capable with Microsoft Windows and Office.
  • Requires effective human relations skills to motivate others and convince them of the validity of solutions to problems.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Physical Requirements
  • The employee is required to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds frequently.
  • Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis.
