Job Overview:

WTOC offers an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Broadcast Systems Specialist within our Technology Department. Our team is tasked with supporting all technical and physical elements of our broadcasting facilities.

The specialist collaborates daily with all station personnel to address operational requirements and challenges; effective communication with both technical and non-technical staff is essential.

Responsibilities encompass troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing broadcast RF, AV, and IT systems and software. This role is hands-on, requiring applicants to utilize tools and testing equipment to diagnose and resolve technical issues.

The ideal candidate is meticulous, takes pride in their work, and can swiftly implement innovative solutions in high-pressure situations.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducts routine maintenance of broadcast and IT support systems
  • Provides engineering support for studio production, postproduction, and remote field production events and programs
  • Maintains advanced knowledge of current broadcast equipment, technology, and software
  • Ensures all equipment operates correctly before and during live event broadcasts, addressing and documenting technical issues
  • Cross-trains other technical staff members and enhances facility documentation

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent certification is preferred but not mandatory
  • Experience with professional audio/video equipment, software, and techniques
  • Familiarity with control room automation and newsroom software is advantageous
  • Proficient in the latest computer operating systems, networking, and IP addressing
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly under pressure while maintaining efficiency and composure
  • Must exhibit a positive work attitude, strong work ethic, and the ability to collaborate effectively
  • Capable of managing multiple projects and tasks while upholding quality standards
  • Willingness to work varying hours, including weekends and holidays
  • A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required
  • Applicants should be able to perform basic physical tasks involving bending/lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Occasional travel may be necessary, with outdoor work in various weather conditions
