Atlanta, Georgia, United States AIG Full time

At AIG, we are redefining how we assist clients in managing their risks. As a Claims Recovery Specialist, you will contribute to this evolution, enhancing your skills and experience as a vital member of our organization.

Impacting the Claims Process

Our Claims teams are recognized as the preferred problem solvers for clients, delivering consistent technical excellence and demonstrating our service differentiation to create an unmatched global claims handling experience. Through a robust feedback mechanism and supported by standardized processes and leadership, we take pride in providing responsive, fair, and professional service with empathy and efficiency.

Your Role in Recovery

The Recovery Specialist is accountable for the comprehensive recovery process, which includes: investigating, identifying, and pursuing recovery/subrogation opportunities to maximize amounts received from third parties who are entirely responsible or share liability for damages compensated to claimants by AIG, while ensuring recovery costs are minimized.

In this position, you will manage claim recovery cases across various commercial insurance lines within the North American region.

This role often necessitates the exercise of discretion and professional judgment in determining whether to pursue recovery and in negotiating settlements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate assigned claim files to ascertain the feasibility of recovery, investigate and assess liability issues, coordinate investigations by expert witnesses, proactively follow up with relevant parties, manage arbitrations, and refer cases to approved legal counsel. Conduct thorough investigations, assess liability, and negotiate optimal settlements under contractual terms.
  • Review assigned files for the adequacy of investigations and recognition of recovery potential by claims personnel. Inform management of deficiencies in investigations conducted by claims personnel that may hinder recovery chances.
  • Prepare activity reports on files exceeding settlement authority.
  • Maintain a diary of facts and activities regarding assigned files, ensuring compliance with Statute of Limitation requirements.
  • Research, comprehend, and apply state laws relevant to each file. Keep management informed of legislative, regulatory, and legal developments that may affect recovery outcomes.
  • Authorize and issue, within established guidelines and authority, indemnity and legal payments through the appropriate Claims Processing Systems.
  • Forecast potential recoveries and update the recoverable amount as necessary.
  • Provide customer service support to external organizations and AIG Claim Operation management.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with insured parties, legal representatives, corporate personnel, and vendors.
  • Develop legal briefs and contentions for arbitration submissions and, as assigned, participate in arbitration panels.

Qualifications for Success:

  • Preferred college degree, but not mandatory.
  • 3+ years of experience in the Property & Casualty insurance sector preferred.
  • Understanding of local laws, insurance markets, and terminology.
  • Knowledge of Property and Specialty Lines of Business.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills and a thorough working knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines when required.
