Atlanta, Georgia, United States AIG Full time

At AIG, we are redefining the approach to risk management for our clients. As a Claims Recovery Specialist, you will contribute significantly to this evolution, enhancing your skills and experience as a vital member of our organization.

Impact in Claims Management

Our Claims teams are recognized as the preferred problem solvers for clients, consistently delivering technical excellence and demonstrating our unique service offerings to provide an unmatched global claims handling experience. With a strong feedback mechanism and supported by reliable processes and leadership, we take pride in offering responsive, fair, and professional service characterized by empathy and efficiency.

Your Role in Recovery

The Recovery Specialist oversees the complete recovery process, which includes: investigating, identifying, and pursuing recovery/subrogation opportunities to optimize the amounts recovered from third parties who are fully liable or share liability for damages compensated to claimants by AIG, while ensuring that recovery costs are kept to a minimum.

In this role, you will manage claim recovery cases across various commercial insurance lines within the North American region.

This position frequently requires the application of discretion and professional judgment in determining the viability of recovery efforts and in negotiating settlements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examine assigned claim files to assess the feasibility of recovery, investigate and analyze liability issues, coordinate investigations with expert witnesses, proactively engage with relevant parties, manage arbitrations, and refer cases to authorized attorneys. Conduct missing investigations, evaluate liability, and negotiate optimal settlements under contractual terms.
  • Review assigned files for the adequacy of investigations and recognition of recovery potential by claims personnel. Inform management of any deficiencies in investigations that may reduce recovery chances.
  • Prepare activity reports on files exceeding settlement authority.
  • Maintain a detailed diary of facts and activities related to assigned files, ensuring compliance with Statute of Limitation requirements.
  • Research, comprehend, and apply state laws pertinent to each file. Keep management informed of legislative, regulatory, and legal developments that may affect recovery outcomes.
  • Authorize and process indemnity and legal payments within established guidelines and authority through the appropriate Claims Processing Systems.
  • Forecast potential recoveries and adjust the recoverable amount as necessary.
  • Provide customer service support to external organizations and AIG Claim Operation management.
  • Establish and nurture professional relationships with insured parties, legal representatives, corporate staff, and vendors.
  • Develop legal briefs and arguments for arbitration submissions and, as assigned, participate in arbitration panels.

Qualifications for Success:

  • Preferred college degree, though not mandatory.
  • 3+ years of experience in the Property & Casualty insurance sector is preferred.
  • Understanding of local laws, insurance markets, and relevant terminology.
  • Knowledge of Property and Specialty Lines of Business.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, along with a thorough proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines when required.
