POSITION SUMMARY

CLAIMS ANALYST - RISK MANAGEMENT DIVISION
The City of Atlanta's Risk Management Division is in search of skilled candidates for a Senior Claims Analyst role. This division is responsible for overseeing claims made against the City of Atlanta.

Role Overview and Classification Standards
The individual selected for this role will provide investigative legal support for the City of Atlanta.

Key responsibilities include collecting information, evidence, and other discovery materials pertinent to ongoing investigations; interviewing relevant parties; conducting on-site evaluations; performing legal research; and making informed recommendations regarding the settlement or rejection of claims for active cases.

This position requires an experienced professional capable of independently managing most tasks typical of the investigative field.

Core Responsibilities
These responsibilities are typical for this role and should not be interpreted as exhaustive or exclusive. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Formulates and implements investigative strategies to gather pertinent information (e.g., witnesses, electronic records, physical evidence) to evaluate the legitimacy of a claim.
  • Engages and collaborates with individuals, insurance providers, legal representatives, governmental bodies, and inter-departmental teams to prioritize, manage, and investigate claims to either substantiate or refute them.
KEY DUTIES

Conducts site assessments

  • Identifies and arranges meetings with witnesses (employees, medical experts, and other relevant individuals) for interviews.


  • Utilizes analytical and investigative methodologies, including logical reasoning and critical thinking skills.
  • Responds promptly to claims-related inquiries through various communication channels and consistently updates claimants and other interested parties.
  • Maintains organized case files utilizing case management software.
  • Manages workload effectively to ensure timely and efficient resolution of claims while minimizing liability for the City of Atlanta.
  • Cultivates relationships with key personnel within the Law Department, other divisions, boards, and agencies associated with the City of Atlanta.
  • Prepares comprehensive summaries of claim investigations and drafts preliminary settlement documents with recommendations for claim resolution for review by the Claims Manager or Supervisory Attorney.
  • Presents case analyses to team members, highlighting encountered challenges and sharing best practices for determining appropriate resolutions.
  • Employs a variety of resource tools to aid in investigations, including state and local regulations, legal research platforms, and specialized investigative tools.
  • Operates the Department of Law's Document Management System with proficiency.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience
High School Diploma and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience.

Must possess a valid driver's license and obtain an Insurance Adjuster License within a specified timeframe after employment.



Preferred Education & Experience

Associate's degree or at least three (3) years of progressive experience in administrative or risk management investigations, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this role.

Must possess a valid driver's license and complete an insurance adjuster training course to obtain the Insurance Adjuster License within the designated timeframe after hiring.
