Position Overview

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is in search of a dedicated and experienced Director of Surgical Services. This leadership role entails the coordination and supervision of patient care during surgical and procedural interventions in the Operating Room. The director will also oversee the sterile processing departments that support perioperative services, ensuring the efficient reprocessing and delivery of necessary items throughout the healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operational and financial management of the Surgical Services department.
  • Ensure that perioperative staff deliver safe and effective patient care.
  • Support the integration of evidence-based practices into surgical care.
  • Assist in evaluating surgical practices and strategizing for enhancements.
  • Guarantee the availability of educational resources for perioperative staff and ensure compliance with training requirements.
  • Lead and manage changes within the surgical services area.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to plan and execute perioperative patient care.
  • Assess the performance of Surgical Services personnel.
  • Participate in the recruitment process for perioperative and sterile processing staff.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Confirm the availability of necessary personnel, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Provide mentorship and constructive feedback to the surgical team.
  • Establish expected outcomes for sterile processing services and develop strategic plans to achieve them.
  • Act as a patient advocate, maintaining confidentiality and privacy of health information.
  • Analyze data to support decisions related to sterile processing services.
  • Communicate plans for sterile processing services to stakeholders and collaborate for improvements.
  • Implement strategies to enhance workplace safety in sterile processing areas.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of strategic plans for sterile processing services.
  • Facilitate quality improvement initiatives using key performance indicators.
  • Incorporate current evidence into sterile processing practices.
  • Manage resources efficiently to ensure high-quality and cost-effective sterile processing services.
  • Coordinate educational and competency verification activities for sterile processing staff.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of educational and competency activities.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in operating room nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse license in Pennsylvania or a multistate license.
  • Certification in Endoscope Reprocessing or willingness to obtain within 18 months.
  • Certification in Central Service Technician or willingness to obtain within 18 months.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks involving lifting and moving patients and equipment.
