Position Overview

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is in search of a dedicated and experienced Director of Surgical Services. This pivotal role entails the oversight and coordination of patient care for individuals undergoing surgical or other medical procedures within the Operating Room environment. The Director will also manage and supervise the sterile processing departments that support perioperative services, ensuring the effective reprocessing and distribution of medical items throughout the healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operational and financial management of the Surgical Services department.
  • Ensure that perioperative staff deliver safe and effective patient care.
  • Assist in integrating evidence-based practices into surgical care protocols.
  • Support perioperative teams in evaluating and enhancing their practices.
  • Ensure educational resources are accessible for ongoing staff training and compliance.
  • Facilitate and manage changes within the surgical services area.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to plan and improve perioperative patient care.
  • Assess the performance of Surgical Services personnel.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of perioperative and sterile processing staff.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Guarantee the availability of necessary personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Provide mentorship and constructive feedback to the surgical team.
  • Establish expected outcomes for sterile processing services.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for sterile processing to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Act as a patient advocate, ensuring confidentiality and privacy of health information.
  • Collect and analyze data to support decision-making related to sterile processing services.
  • Communicate plans for sterile processing services to stakeholders and collaborate for improvements.
  • Coordinate the implementation of sterile processing services efficiently.
  • Promote workplace safety and health standards in sterile processing areas.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of strategic plans for sterile processing services.
  • Guide quality improvement initiatives using key performance indicators.
  • Incorporate current evidence into sterile processing practices.
  • Utilize resources effectively to deliver high-quality sterile processing services.
  • Coordinate education and competency verification for sterile processing staff.
  • Maintain documentation of ongoing educational activities and staff competencies.

Qualifications:

  • Proven supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in operating room nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse license in Pennsylvania or a multistate license.
  • Certification in Endoscope Reprocessing or willingness to obtain within 18 months.
  • Certification in Central Service Technician or willingness to obtain within 18 months.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
