Position Overview

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is in search of a dedicated and experienced Director of Surgical Services. This leadership role entails the comprehensive oversight and coordination of patient care during surgical procedures within the Operating Room. The Director will also manage the sterile processing departments that support perioperative functions, ensuring the efficient reprocessing and distribution of medical instruments and supplies throughout the healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operational and financial management of the Surgical Services department.
  • Ensure that perioperative staff deliver safe and effective patient care.
  • Assist in the integration of evidence-based practices into surgical care protocols.
  • Support staff in evaluating clinical practices and developing improvement strategies.
  • Guarantee access to educational resources for perioperative team training and compliance.
  • Lead change management initiatives within the surgical department.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance perioperative patient care planning.
  • Assess the performance of Surgical Services personnel.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of perioperative and sterile processing staff.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Verify the availability of necessary personnel, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
  • Provide mentorship and constructive feedback to the surgical team.
  • Establish expected outcomes for sterile processing services and develop strategic plans to achieve them.
  • Act as a patient advocate, maintaining confidentiality and privacy of health information.
  • Analyze data to inform decisions regarding sterile processing service delivery.
  • Communicate plans for sterile processing services to stakeholders and collaborate for improvements.
  • Implement sterile processing services efficiently, utilizing available resources.
  • Promote safety and health standards in sterile processing areas.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of strategic plans for sterile processing services.
  • Encourage quality improvement initiatives based on key performance indicators.
  • Integrate current evidence into sterile processing practices.
  • Manage educational and competency verification activities for sterile processing staff.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of staff training and competency assessments.

Qualifications:

  • Proven supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in operating room nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse license in Pennsylvania or a multistate license.
  • Certification in Endoscope Reprocessing or willingness to obtain within 18 months.
  • Certification in Central Service Technician or willingness to obtain within 18 months.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
  • Strong critical thinking, decision-making skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
