POSITION: Senior Control Systems Engineer

LOCATION: New Hope, MN (Onsite)

SALARY RANGE: $115,000 – 150,000, based on qualifications

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Direct Hire

REPORTING TO: Project Engineer

OVERVIEW:

The ABK Group, LLC is seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer to oversee the control systems for manufacturing and packaging machinery. This role is pivotal in supporting the design, acquisition, installation, and validation of GMP-compliant process equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for PLC, HMI, and robotic software updates and programming.
  • Ensure compliance with audit trails, batch records, and data integrity on commercial machinery.
  • Develop new robotic recipes for the packaging of innovative products.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of software backups for all commercial systems.
  • Assist with network and LDAP authentication within the manufacturing IT infrastructure.
  • Draft User Requirement Specifications (URS) for manufacturing and packaging systems.
  • Organize and compile all relevant control data to prepare project scopes, cost estimates, economic justifications, and capital appropriation requests for management approval. Manage project budgets to ensure adherence to planned expenditures.
  • Create and revise GMP documentation as required by projects, including equipment qualifications, change controls, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and equipment manuals.
  • Troubleshoot complex equipment issues and devise effective engineering solutions for assigned systems.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to resolve issues.
  • Support site reliability initiatives by monitoring key performance indicators and proactively addressing potential issues to prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Initiate and manage change controls for equipment modifications.
  • Lead investigations to accurately identify root causes and implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs) to avoid recurrence.
  • Engage routinely with internal Technical Services, Quality Assurance, and Environmental Health & Safety personnel to meet project and production objectives.
  • Oversee the execution of start-up and commissioning activities for both minor and major equipment upgrades.
  • Contribute to equipment safety assessments.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor and train fellow engineers on automation best practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in a pharmaceutical, medical device, or food & beverage manufacturing engineering environment.
  • Experience in the procurement, installation, and validation of complex equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a background in technical writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of working independently and prioritizing critical tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, and familiar with CAD software, ladder logic programming, Rockwell Automation software/hardware, Siemens software/hardware, Fanuc Robots, Universal Robots, and ABB Robots.
