Position Overview

Leidos | Gibbs and Cox is on the lookout for a Senior Electrical Systems Engineer to contribute to a variety of initiatives. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with our engineering and production teams to create and implement innovative solutions to complex defense challenges. This role will report to the Electrical Engineering Department Manager and will work alongside Program Managers across multiple contracts.

Work Environment

We prefer candidates who are based in the Washington, DC area to facilitate onsite collaboration at our headquarters. However, we are open to considering fully remote candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting engineering calculations and applying electrical engineering principles to resolve technical challenges encountered during the design and development of marine vessels.
  • Effectively communicating technical concepts to clients.
  • Performing quality assurance assessments of analyses, calculations, and design documents.
  • Designing electric and electronic systems, focusing on power generation, distribution, and centralized machinery monitoring and control.
  • Utilizing engineering expertise to develop and assess moderately complex technical reports related to C5I systems on board marine vessels.
  • Evaluating the impact of new or modified electronic components on overall system functionality.
  • Reviewing system design specifications, test requirements, and engineering changes.
  • Understanding US Navy, USCG, ABS, and commercial ship design regulations.

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance, which involves a thorough security investigation.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Technical, or Marine disciplines from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 2 years of documented experience in integrating C5I systems in areas such as Cybersecurity, Command and Control, Navigation, and Communications.
  • At least 2 years of experience in developing and integrating shipboard C5I systems, with a focus on designing maintainable and cost-effective solutions.
  • Compliance with Department of Defense IAT Level II Baseline Certification Requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Technical proficiency in electrical engineering to guide and review project outputs.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with management and team members.
  • Experience in customer interactions regarding technical and programmatic matters.
  • Resourceful and adaptable with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Proficient in standard electrical system design and analysis tools.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Exceptional oral, written, and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with shipyard production systems and marine electrical power systems.
  • Familiarity with CAD, AutoCAD, and Rhino software.
  • Knowledge of military standards and specifications.
  • Experience with USCG operations is advantageous.
  • Two years of specialized experience in federal ship or boat building acquisition programs is preferred.
  • Experience with Department of Defense ACAT I or Department of Homeland Security Level I shipbuilding initiatives is a plus.
  • Prior experience with shipboard and defense C5I systems is desirable.

Compensation Information

The salary range for this position is between $65,000 and $117,500. This range serves as a general guideline and is not a guarantee of compensation. Factors influencing the final offer may include job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, and internal equity.
