About the Role

Cornell University is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Extension Associate to join our Central New York Dairy, Livestock and Field Crops Team. As a Farm Business Management Specialist, you will play a key role in providing educational programs and applied research efforts to dairy, livestock, and field crop producers in the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement educational programs to enhance the profitability and sustainability of dairy, livestock, and field crop operations.
  • Conduct applied research projects to address the needs of the agricultural industry in Central New York.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify industry needs and develop effective solutions.
  • Prepare and disseminate educational materials, including reports, articles, and presentations.
  • Participate in regional, statewide, and national work groups related to agricultural extension and research.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, or a closely related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in agribusiness, livestock, dairy, and/or field crops production, cooperative extension, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in conducting, interpreting, evaluating, and communicating the results of applied research.
  • Knowledge of the philosophy, objectives, and operation of an informal education system such as Cornell Cooperative Extension.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles, theory, and research in the economics of commercial production and business management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework in Animal and Crop Sciences, Marketing, Labor Management, Adult Education, and Communications.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in current and emerging issues and production practices of dairy, field crops, and livestock farm businesses.
