Research Associate

This position is responsible for executing psychological research, including research design, data collection, analysis, and report writing to advance the work of the department, the Alaska SeaLife Center (ASLC), and its partners.
Key Responsibilities:- Support doctoral-level research to advance theory regarding the psychological factors optimizing value creation and collaboration at the intersection of indigenous knowledge tradition and western science culture and practice.
- Advance the work of the organization and the work of the CORaL network partners by identifying the systems conditions, mechanisms, barriers, and pathways for advancing healing of historically fraught relationships.
- Collaborate with ASLC Research Team, scientists and staff, CORaL network partners, regional science partners, community members, and native Alaskan community leaders/elders to establish priorities in research, crafting the work to reflect all interests and concerns.
- Develop theory, research methods, and execute primary research, collaborate and/or lead data analysis as required and prepare manuscripts and presentations to ensure all research is conducted in an ethical, transparent, and participatory manner to ensure all stakeholders are aware and participate in the project.
- Ph.D. or Post-doctoral Candidate with an established knowledge of the theories and practices that describe traditional science pedagogy, including both post-positivist and constructivist, emancipatory science, animist views of nature and indigenous knowledge traditions.
- Prior publications and/or evidence of research or literature reviews is preferred.
- Knowledge of mixed methods research principles, including community-based and participatory research theory, demonstrated command of quantitative analysis, including R and/or other software necessary for qualitative and quantitative analysis.
- Demonstrated excellence in language analysis, speaking and writing for both academic and trade publications, fluent English.
The position requires flexibility and availability in schedule to facilitate data collection as necessary on weekends, evenings, and holidays. Ability to travel for extended data gathering efforts to partner sites as required, which include extended periods of time in communities as a participatory researcher/data collector.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, laptop computers or smart phones for data collection, copy machine, and computer printer. Move equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
Pay and Benefits:$30 per hour / 20 hours per pay period (2wks.) Part-Time Position, Approximately 16 months
