Therapeutic Support Specialist

The Therapeutic Support Worker plays a vital role in supporting families affected by abuse and neglect. This position involves supervising family visits, providing supportive counseling, health and safety education, basic parenting education, documentation, communication, transportation, and assisting with resource coordination of services. This is a flexible hourly position, with most visits taking place during afterschool/evening hours and some weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist families in developing effective parenting skills during supervised visitation.
- Help families access community resources to meet their social, medical, educational, vocational, and financial needs.
- Support Case Managers with their assigned case loads.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with youth, families, and community providers.
- Transport youth and/or their families to appointments, visits, school, etc. as needed.
- Provide office administrative support, including filing, auditing, ordering, billing, and organizational help as assigned.
- Develop and maintain timely documentation, including visit notes, contact logs, and monthly reports in accordance with regulations, state, and federal law.
- Keep the supervisor updated on any incidents or concerns involving clients.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED required; Associate's Degree in Human Services or related field with 2 years of experience working with families preferred. Having lived experience as a foster family, youth, or family who have received supports in the system of care preferred.
- Must be at least 22 years of age.
- Demonstrated ability to serve and care for people in need.
- Ability to understand and follow policies and procedures.
- Understanding of and ability to work positively with children and parents with mental health challenges and/or intellectual disabilities.
- Understanding of and ability to set professional boundaries.
- Ability to provide documentation such as a valid driver's license, evidence of automobile insurance, and a clear criminal record and central registry check as required to work in community services.
