Position Overview:


The primary responsibility of the Executive Leader is to safeguard the vitality and prosperity of the organization, its workforce, and the communities served.

In collaboration with the Board of Directors and senior management, the Executive Leader aims to elevate the organization's profile within public, governmental, and community spheres.

The Executive Leader maintains a prominent and positive professional presence.

This role oversees an organization dedicated to areas such as expanded learning programs, national service initiatives, mental health support, community wellness, and youth employment services.

The Executive Leader should be aware of social challenges that influence systemic issues within these sectors.

As a strategic networker and influencer, the Executive Leader engages with local, state, and national policymakers, funding agencies, and community partners.

The Executive Leader provides strategic direction, overall leadership, and structured guidance for the organization and its initiatives.

This is achieved through close collaboration with the Board of Directors, executing the strategic plan, and receiving support from the executive team.

The Executive Leader will manage and oversee the organization's activities, programs, fundraising efforts, infrastructure, personnel, finances, and community engagement initiatives.

They must possess the ability to be both visionary and community-focused, leading with a hands-on approach that avoids micromanagement.

The Executive Leader will set medium-term objectives and strategies aligned with the organization's mission and values.

They will actively listen and leverage internal and external insights, perspectives, and data to remain informed about the social, economic, and systemic challenges impacting the sectors in which the organization operates.

The Executive Leader ensures that the organization meets fiscal and administrative targets while delivering high-quality programs that reflect best practices and adapt to the evolving needs of the community.

Experience in implementing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) initiatives is highly desirable.

The Executive Leader will embrace modern workforce practices, including technology integration, equitable compensation, DEIB considerations, mentoring, and professional development. They will be instrumental in building and retaining a strong team throughout the organization.

The Executive Leader serves as the chief advocate and financial steward for the organization's programs and operations, expected to communicate effectively and collaborate passionately about the organization and its beneficiaries.

A background in revenue generation, fundraising, and diversifying income streams is preferred.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Leader works to enhance the financial and operational robustness of the organization.

This includes possessing strong business acumen, experience in operational scaling, and the ability to prioritize with a results-oriented mindset.

Exceptional skills in cash and treasury management, particularly in optimizing cash flow amidst unique payment schedules and funding constraints, are highly sought after.

A keen strategic vision, sound operational and financial management, business insight, and outstanding interpersonal skills are crucial for the Executive Leader's success.


Compensation and Benefits:

Salary:
$310,000 - $350,000 (dependent on experience) annually
Performance-based bonuses awarded at the discretion of the Board based on mutually established objectives

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership and Vision

Develop strategic initiatives to enhance the organization’s scale, quality, and effectiveness; continuously assess the environment to identify opportunities for growth.

Lead structured business planning processes to ensure clarity on organizational directions, priorities, and execution aligned with the mission and competitive advantages.

Report directly to the Board of Directors while fostering a strong governance and leadership partnership to define medium-range planning.

External and Partner Relations
Lead and engage in collaborations and partnerships at federal, state, and local levels. Represent the organization on relevant state and national committees.
Maintain and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, community leaders, and funders.

Build community connections and develop opportunities for unrestricted funding; this may include fee-for-service revenue reflecting the organization’s expertise.

Evaluate potential partnerships with other organizations.
Financial Management
Collaborate with executive leadership to analyze contracts for financial and programmatic viability. Authorize and review key proposals. Approve contracts and expenditures.
Work with the CFO and Board to identify future investments that enhance financial security.

Develop the annual operating budget in collaboration with executive leadership and ensure effective implementation across all programs.

Promote financial management and professional development for program staff, ensuring they understand the financial drivers of their respective areas.

Develop financial models to assess performance in conjunction with the CFO.

Strategize with the CFO to ensure adequate cash flow and infrastructure to maintain financial soundness, including securing lines of credit as needed.

Program and Operational Management

Communicate and embody the organization’s core values and mission, ensuring alignment of policies and operations.

Collaborate with the Chief Program Officer and CFO to review performance, capitalize on successes, identify risks, and allocate resources effectively.

Lead the development of annual plans and metrics for all departments, ensuring program objectives and financial goals are met.
Oversee the creation of Three-Year Goal plans in conjunction with the Board, monitoring execution and success.

Enhance data metrics and collection on program impact and outcomes to drive continuous improvement.

People Management

Inspire, manage, and retain the Leadership Team, providing support, guidance, and professional development to meet excellence standards.

Identify future leaders for professional growth and advocate for recruiting new talent at all levels.
Foster a culture of respect and collaboration, actively supporting DEIB initiatives. Model organizational norms of accountability, transparency, and clearly defined roles.
Commit to continuous learning at both strategic and tactical levels within the organization.

Develop and maintain meaningful relationships across all organizational levels, ensuring accessibility to all staff members.

Provide regular communications to all staff.
Requirements

Education:
A bachelor’s or advanced degree,
An M.B.A. is advantageous.

Educational credentials or experiential learning demonstrating proficiency in P&L management, effective budget creation, and understanding financial statements while implementing strategic plans.


Experience:


A minimum of 10 years in a CEO, Executive Director, or industry leadership role within a nonprofit, foundation, government, or related enterprise.
