The Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center, Inc. is seeking two dedicated Community Outreach Workers (COWs) to enhance the well-being of at-risk populations through improved access to educational and healthcare resources. These individuals will serve as vital links between the health center and local educational institutions that host school-based health centers (SBHCs).
The SBHCs are designed to deliver comprehensive medical, dental, and behavioral health services in a familiar environment, thereby supporting students' academic success and their families' employment stability. The outreach worker model has proven effective in broadening healthcare access, enhancing health outcomes, and addressing disparities in health equity.
In addition to traditional outreach efforts, the COWs will focus on assisting refugees, immigrants, and other newcomers in navigating the intricate educational enrollment processes. The role will involve rotating among various schools, health center locations, and Parent Information Centers (PICs) within the districts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enhance visibility and enrollment of SBHCs by participating in school and community events.
- Support refugees, immigrants, and new arrivals in understanding the educational and healthcare systems through collaboration with local PICs and refugee clinics.
- Work alongside medical enrollment specialists to assist families with health insurance applications.
- Foster youth empowerment by developing and managing youth-focused programs.
- Act as a liaison for community partners and service providers.
- Maintain a comprehensive calendar of school and health center events to facilitate communication with SBHC staff and community stakeholders.
- Design initiatives to address health concerns within the student population, including classroom-based health education.
