Position Overview:

The Senior Customs Trade Specialist is accountable for the meticulous coordination of documentation mandated by US Customs and Government Agencies for the entry of intricate and high-risk shipments. These shipments are classified as such due to their regulatory complexities and tariff combinations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Engage with clients concerning commodities identified as needing specialized processing to mitigate the risk of liquidated damages and penalties through accurate classification and the application of appropriate duty preferences.
  • Ensure correct classification of goods for customs clearance utilizing databases, standard operating procedures, tariff books, internet resources, or customs guidelines.
  • Perform data entry and manage various import-related documentation for submission to US Customs and all Participating Government Agencies (PGAs).
  • Maintain and update all shipment documentation to comply with record-keeping requirements.
  • Adhere to all international import and export regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, departments, other FedEx operational companies, clients, and government entities to provide a high level of service.
  • Process agency brokerage shipments and manage remote filings.
  • Conduct entry reconciliations as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with all governmental and organizational policies.
  • Follow up on customs-related issues and resolve any arising problems.
  • Perform entry reviews as required.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Training and Qualifications:

Paid training will be provided. An associate degree or equivalent is preferred. A minimum of two years of brokerage experience is required, along with at least one year of customer interaction experience. Proficiency in data entry and keyboard skills is essential. Certification as a Customs Specialist (CCS) and/or a brokerage license is preferred. Required skills include proficiency in MS Office, Outlook, and familiarity with office equipment (phone, fax, photocopier, printer, scanner).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Capability to manage a high volume of work and time-sensitive tasks.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in utilizing multiple systems and reference materials.
  • Experience interacting with customers, carriers, brokers, government agencies, and internal staff across all levels.

Knowledge Requirements:

In-depth knowledge of customs regulations and harmonized tariff schedules is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Highly preferred qualifications include certification as a Customs Specialist (CCS) and a brokerage license. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM.
