Position Overview:

Join our dedicated team at Renton Technical College as a full-time Facility Maintenance Technician. This role is integral to our custodial staff and reports directly to the Custodial Supervisor. Our custodial team plays a vital role in ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for students, staff, and the community. This position is essential during emergencies and requires attendance when the institution is closed.

We are looking for three qualified individuals. The Facility Maintenance Technician position is represented by the AFT-WA Employees Association. The compensation for this role ranges from $43,784 to $60,670 annually, with salary placement determined by relevant work experience. Benefits information is available through our resources.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Exhibit multicultural competence and foster an inclusive work environment.
  • Ensure consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintain cleanliness of both interior and exterior areas of the facility.
  • Oversee the upkeep of floors, walls, and windows in designated buildings.
  • Manage waste collection and recycling processes.
  • Sanitize and restock restrooms and locker facilities.
  • Clean food preparation and service areas thoroughly.
  • Assist in moving furniture and equipment as necessary.
  • Report any mechanical issues or hazards to the Custodial Supervisor.
  • Clear snow and apply de-icing materials as required.
  • Replace and recycle lamps and batteries as needed.
  • Maintain effective communication while on duty.
  • Secure and open buildings as directed.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and the public.
  • Manage outdoor waste receptacles and maintain cleanliness in common areas.
  • Demonstrate capability in fulfilling all job responsibilities.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience working with diverse populations and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and remain on feet for extended periods.
  • Possession of a Grade IV Boiler Operator license or the ability to obtain one within 180 days of hire.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork capabilities.
  • Ability to work with individuals from various linguistic backgrounds.
  • Proficient in organizing tasks and managing priorities.
  • Professional representation of the college with courtesy and discretion.
  • Proficiency in a language other than English is preferred.
Working Conditions:
Work hours for this position will be during the swing shift. The custodial team is part of the emergency response team and is expected to report for duty during emergencies.
