Overview

The role of a Materials Science Research Specialist involves overseeing and conducting material science investigations aligned with the objectives of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Key Responsibilities

As a Materials Science Research Specialist within the CIA's Directorate of Science and Technology (DS&T), you will utilize your scientific and engineering knowledge as a vital member of a collaborative team of innovative problem solvers. Your contributions will be essential in developing new solutions that support the CIA's mission. DS&T Materials Science Research Specialists integrate specialized technical expertise across various disciplines to guide and engage in collaborative team efforts.

Your responsibilities will include leveraging advancements in materials science to create novel capabilities and provide technical insights into national security challenges.

You will have opportunities to enhance your knowledge through Agency-sponsored professional development, participation in academic conferences, and hands-on training with subject matter experts.

Employment ConditionsRequirements:
  • Must be physically located in the United States or its territories when submitting your application.
  • Registration with the Selective Service is required when applicable.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years of age.
  • Willingness to relocate to the Washington, DC area is necessary.
  • Successful completion of medical, psychological evaluations, polygraph interview, and background investigation is mandatory.

  • Ability to fulfill the minimum requirements for joining the CIA, including U.S. citizenship and successful completion of a background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree focusing on materials research.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize existing and emerging technologies for innovative solutions.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Certification in Program Management.
  • Experience in designing and implementing innovative research programs.
  • Experience managing research projects of varying complexity.
Educational Background
  • Master's degree in Material Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
