Role Summary
As a vital member of our research team, you will conduct in-depth analyses to support advocacy initiatives aimed at enhancing science and democracy. Your work will encompass various areas, including science policy, regulatory frameworks, and the promotion of scientific integrity. You will collaborate closely with campaign teams to achieve significant policy outcomes and serve as a knowledgeable spokesperson on relevant technical and policy matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Research: Execute comprehensive research and analysis on science policy, including federal and state regulations, to inform advocacy strategies. Monitor emerging trends and interpret legislative developments to formulate actionable policy recommendations.
- Communicate Findings: Develop clear and concise research summaries, reports, and visual data presentations to effectively convey policy analysis results to diverse audiences.
- Collaborate with Teams: Work alongside CSD staff on various research tasks, including media responses and public messaging, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Engage with Stakeholders: Provide expertise on key issues to internal and external audiences, responding to inquiries and representing UCS at relevant conferences and events.
- Support Campaign Development: Assist in the formulation of campaign strategies by identifying stakeholders and research opportunities that align with policy objectives.
- Additional Duties: Participate in other related activities as assigned, contributing to a collaborative work environment.
Qualifications
- Master's degree or Juris Doctor in a relevant field, such as public policy, political science, or a related discipline.
- 5-7 years of experience in policy analysis and advocacy, with a focus on democracy reform preferred.
- Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
- Excellent communication abilities, capable of translating complex scientific concepts for a general audience.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams and foster relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Work Environment
This position is fully remote, requiring occasional collaboration during evenings or weekends. Travel may be necessary for meetings and conferences, estimated at 10-15% of the time.
