Job Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Landscape Maintenance Specialist to contribute to the upkeep of our beautiful campus. This full-time position involves a variety of responsibilities focused on maintaining the aesthetic and functional aspects of our grounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute landscaping and horticultural tasks, including turf care, garden upkeep, and tree maintenance as part of the Grounds Department.
  • Perform turf mowing and related activities such as herbicide application, fertilization, seeding, and aeration.
  • Conduct daily trash collection and manage recycling and litter control routes.
  • Handle all grounds-related duties, including but not limited to mowing, raking, weeding, and sweeping.
  • Collaborate with the Grounds Department staff and other personnel to ensure the effective maintenance of campus grounds and facilities.
  • Operate and maintain hand and power equipment related to grounds maintenance while ensuring proper care of equipment and vehicles.
  • Assist in meeting deadlines and support the community and the institution's mission.
  • Adhere to safety and health standards, environmental regulations, and quality procedures.
  • Carry out seasonal tasks as required, including snow and ice removal from pathways.
  • Support the supervision of seasonal employees, student workers, and external contractors.

Qualifications:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Familiarity with various outdoor maintenance trades (mowing, raking, planting, equipment operation, etc.) is essential.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • The ability to assess situations, consider risks, and implement effective action plans.
  • Teamwork capabilities and effective collaboration with faculty, contractors, and students.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
  • Physical stamina to meet job demands, including lifting and carrying heavy objects.
  • A willingness to perform additional tasks as needed by the department.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • A valid Driver's License is required.
  • A pesticide applicator or operator's license is preferred.
  • Completion of a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check is mandatory.

Working Environment:

Work conditions will vary, encompassing indoor, outdoor, and field environments across different weather conditions. The role requires the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly and to stand or walk for extended periods.
